چکیده
Multimodal conversational spoken dialogues using physical and virtual agents provide a potential interface to motivate and support users in the domain of health and fitness. In this paper we present how such multimodal conversational Companions can be implemented to support their owners in various pervasive and mobile settings. We present concrete system architectures, virtual, physical and mobile multimodal interfaces, and interaction management techniques for such companions. In particular, we present how knowledge representation and separation of low-level interaction modelling from high-level reasoning at the domain level makes it possible to implement distributed, but still coherent, interaction with Companions. The distribution is enabled by using a dialogue plan to communicate information from domain level planner to dialogue management and from there to a separate mobile interface. The model enables each part of the system to handle the same information from its own perspective without containing overlapping ∗Corresponding author Email addresses: [email protected] (Markku Turunen), [email protected] (Jaakko Hakulinen), [email protected] (Olov St̊ahl), [email protected] (Björn Gambäck), [email protected] (Preben Hansen), [email protected] (Mari C. Multimodal conversational spoken dialogues using physical and virtual agents provide a potential interface to motivate and support users in the domain of health and fitness. The paper presents a multimodal conversational Companion system focused on health and fitness, which has both a stationary and a mobile component.
متن کاملPhysically embodied conversational agents as health and fitness companions
We present a physical multimodal conversational Companion in the area of health and fitness. Conversational spoken dialogues using physical agents provide a potential interface for applications which are aimed at motivating and supporting users. Open source software called jNabServer, which enables spoken and multimodal interaction with Nabaztag/tag wireless rabbits, is presented together with ...
متن کاملCreation of Multimodal Corpus for Modeling Turn Management in Multi-party Conversations
Spoken interactions are known for accurate timing and alignment between interlocutors: turn-taking and topic flow are managed in a manner that provides conversational fluency and smooth progress of the task. When considering applications like robot companions which interact with the user in real time, turn-taking and topic flow are also important. This paper describes creation of multi-modal co...
متن کاملDesigning a Conversational Interface for a Multimodal Smartphone Programming-by-Demonstration Agent
In this position paper, we first summarize our work on designing the conversational interface for SUGILITE – a multimodal programming by demonstration system that enables a virtual agent to learn how to handle out-ofdomain commands and perform the tasks using available third-party mobile apps in task-oriented dialogs from the user’s demonstrations. We then discuss our planned future work on ena...
متن کاملIntelligent Companions for Older Adults
Mobile technologies have the potential to enhance the lives of older adults, especially those who experience a decline in cognitive abilities. However, diminutive devices often perplex the aged and many HCI problems exist. This paper discusses the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to develop intelligent algorithms which will (a) govern how a mobile application adapts the design of ...
